How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Committee's purpose is accomplished through open public meetings to deliberate and seek public input to facilitate continuing updates to the NPS with concerns from the community regarding the future development, management, and interpretation of the preserve. The Committee also provided advice during the preparation of the general management plan.
How is membership balanced?*	Membership is as prescribed by the enabling legislation, and is composed of 13 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, as follows: (1) three members representing the National Park Trust, Inc, now their successor-in-interest The Nature Conservacy; (2) three members representing local landowners, cattle ranchers, or other agricultural interests; (3) three members representing conservation or historic preservation interests (4) one member selected from recommendations by the Chase County Commission, Kansas; and one member selected from recommendations by appropriate officials of Strong City, Kansas, and Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; and one member selected from recommendations by the Governor of the State of Kansas); and (5) one member who is a range management specialist representing institutions of higher education in the State of Kansas.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Advisory Committee was established by the Congress to advise the Secretary of the Interior and the Director of the National Park Service concerning the development, management, and interpretation of the Preserve. Primary purpose was to advise in the development of the park's general management plan (GMP). The GMP was completed in 2000.

Recommendation Remarks	The Committee is administratively inactive and did not meet in FY 2025. 17a The three new members of the successor-in-interest (The Nature Conservancy) to the National Park Trust were appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to three year terms on 4/21/06. All 13 sitting committee members terms have expired. Charter.--The rechartering provisions of section 14(b) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (15 U.S.C. App.) shall not apply to the Advisory Committee.

In 2009, over 41 miles of old ranch roads were opened for use as public hiking trails with significant improvement in points of access occurring in 2010. Extension of hours of use when lands were available for hiking/ wildlife viewing was changed from 9 - 4:30 to 24 hours per day. Significant progress is being done for construction of a visitor center and administrative offices that was identified in the 2007 revised GMP. Agency Feedback Comment*	Feedback with committee members has been through informal contacts or through other public comment process such as the Environmental Assessment process for the reintroduction of bison onto the preserve. Many of the members of the advisory committee were involved with providing public comment on the actions called for in the GMP for implementation.
