Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. See the Data From Previous Years section at the bottom of this page for the committee’s historical, verified data.

Details on agency responses to committee recommendations can be found under the Performance Measures section for each committee in the fields “Agency Feedback” and “Agency Feedback Comment.”

How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Senior Advisor for Environmental Management directs the Board to provide input, advice, and recommendations on various programmatic issues. In FY 2024, the Board issued six recommendations to the Department of Energy focusing on EM's complex groundwater strategy. In support of its mission, an open, public meeting was held on July 30, 2024 via teleconference. In May 2024, members of the committee toured the Savannah River site in South Carolina to gain first-hand knowledge on how the activities addressing the contaminated groundwater at the site related to other Environmental Management sites throughout the country.
How is membership balanced?*Board members represent a variety of experience and expertise, including that of regulatory agencies, business and industry, academia, professional associations, international audiences, and state, local, and Tribal perspectives. In addition, the Board seeks assistance and input from stakeholder representatives.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The full Board meets semi-annually or as deemed appropriate by the Senior Advisor. In FY 2024, EMAB held one public meeting. During full Board meetings, proposed recommendations to the Senior Advisor are discussed and voted upon in an open, public forum. These meetings also provide an opportunity for private citizens and other interested audiences that are not members of the Board to understand issues relevant to the EM program.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*EMAB is the advisory body charged with providing advice and recommendations directly to the Senior Advisor on corporate issues related to the entire EM program. These issues include, but are not limited to: project management and oversight activities, cost/benefit analyses, program performance, human capital development, science and technology, and contracts and acquisition strategies.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
Recommendation RemarksEMAB's mission is continuing in nature.

Outcome CommentAny significant program outcomes associated with the committee are contingent upon the scope of assigned activities and vary from year to year, based on the needs of the Senior Advisor. However, the Board consistently focuses on improving stakeholder relations, which in turn increases trust in government. Many of the Board’s recommendations, which generally do not focus on direct technical applications, address the delivery of effective and timely clean-up that meets departmental, regulator, and stakeholder requirements.Number Of Grants Recommended0
