How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*RAC members bring perspectives from across the Northern California District, a very diverse area, to their discussions with BLM managers.. Members confer with their constituencies and share their concerns with the BLM, and share BLM positions with the interest groups they represent. This provides managers with diverse perspectives essential for sound decision making.
How is membership balanced?*There are efforts by the BLM to ensure the committee contains members who reside in communities across northern California and northwest Nevada, the geographic boundary of the BLM Northern California District. The committee balances its membership by reaching out to interest groups across the district, ensuring that members represent the interests set forward in the charter. This RAC is composed of 15 members, representing 3 categories: commodity, non-commodity, and local area and government interest. Each category has 5 members.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Estimated Number of Meetings per year is generally 3 to 4. Frequent meetings are important for RAC members and BLM managers to develop strong working relationships, and for RAC members to gain full understanding of complex issues. Input from the RAC will be critical, as the district undertakes a land use plan revision affecting two of the four field offices.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*RAC members offer unique local perspectives to BLM decision-makers. The committee works to reach balanced recommendations by working in a collaborative way to discuss and debate topics. This could not be achieved if the BLM consulted individually with groups across the vast expanse of the BLM district.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open.
Recommendation RemarksThe RAC met on May 15, 2025, and September 18, 2025.
