How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Central California RAC provides diverse perspectives from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds representing various interest groups to advise the BLM on management issues for vastly different public lands stretching from the Sierra Nevada through the San Joaquin Valley to the California Coast. This breadth of experiences provides valuable input to the BLM on how the public, elected officials and user groups want to see public lands managed for the benefit of the American people both now and in the future.
How is membership balanced?*The Central California Resource Advisory Council is composed of 12 members distributed in a balanced fashion into three groups. Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development. Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups. Category III includes state, county, or locally elected office-holders, employee of a State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized, are employed as academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences, or represent the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The RAC typically meets 2-4 times per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The RAC members live, play and work on or near public lands within the Central California District. They are committed to utilizing, yet preserving those lands and their advice help guide the BLM in how we manage those lands, the challenges we face and offer unique solutions. The RAC also makes recommendations regarding standard amenity recreation fees and expanded amenity recreation fees to the BLM and U.S. Forest Service whenever the recommendations related to public concerns in the area of the District. The RAC offers a good sounding board to receive local feedback.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the BLM California website, and distributed to local newspapers.
Recommendation RemarksThe RAC met on May 8, 2025.
