How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The full committee is scheduled to meet 2 times/year to discuss tasks assigned by the FTA Administrator. In addition, subcommittees will be appointed and will meet throughout the year as they develop recommendations that will be reviewed and approved by the the full committee.
How is membership balanced?*The committee is representative of transit agencies, state oversight agencies, members of academia, state governments, trade organization, and unions. It is further balanced by geographic, ethnic, and gender diversity.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The full committee meets twice a year and the subcommittees meet monthly. Full committee meetings may be held in-person or virtually. Subcommittees meet via teleconference or other virtual means. Meetings are held to provide updates and to continue progress towards making the best recommendations possible to FTA.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The committee is necessary to assist the FTA with developing recommendations and policy for public transportation safety. Its expertise and diverse interests provide a well-rounded industry approach to safety that FTA cannot obtain elsewhere.

Agency Feedback Comment*Feedback is provided via letter and direct communication with the Designated Federal Officer.Narrative Description*In January 2023, the FTA Administrator asked the TRACS members to research and provide recommendations on 1) Rider and Worker Safety; 2) Reducing Bus Collisions; and 3) Data and Cybersecurity Management. Letter reports containing these recommendations were submitted to the FTA Administrator on Feb. 2, 2024 and contained 21 recommendations. They were submitted to the Secretary of Transportation for acceptance and have been published on FTA's website. TRACS continued work on a second task supporting each of the three forementioned subcommittees. Recommendations are due in early February 2025.
