How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Advise NSF on the impact of NSF and U.S. Government policies on international engagements of the U.S. research and science education communities.Advise NSF on agency-wide strategic goals and initiatives in the international science and engineering research and education arena. Advise NSF on the International Science and Engineering (ISE) section's stewardship of NSF’s international leadership in science and engineering activities.Review and advise on the impact of research and education programs supported.
How is membership balanced?*Members are selected to be representative of the scientific areas and types of institutions encompassed by ISE activities. Every effort is made to achieve a balanced membership with representation including underrepresented groups and different geographic regions
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee ordinarily meets at NSF once per year. The Committee is convened for a second meeting as needed in order to provide NSF advice on timely international priorities. To the extent possible, the second meeting is conducted virtually.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The committee will provide advice and knowledge as NSF pursues international collaboration across the full range of NSF’s disciplinary programs and priority areas. This is the only committee structured and available to advise on agency-wide activities regarding international science and engineering activities.

Agency Feedback Comment*Advisory Committee for International Science and Engineering (AC-ISE) was held once in FY2024.Narrative Description*The NSF mission is set out in the NSF Act of 1950, which authorizes and directs the Agency to initiate and support basic scientific research and research fundamental to the engineering process, and science and engineering education programs at all levels and in all fields of science and engineering. The Advisory Committee on International Science and Engineering provides advice to senior NSF management and the Office of International Science and Engineering on activities related to the NSF strategic plan. The Committee also provides advice and recommendations concerning support for research, education and related activities involving the U.S. science and engineering community working in a global context as well as strategic efforts to promote a more effective NSF role in international science and engineering.
