How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	This committee will be composed of recognized biomedical and/or behavioral research authorities who represent the forefront of research and technical knowledge and who provide evaluation and peer review of Center laboratories and staff scientists in the following areas: basic sciences and clinical research of complementary and integrative health. The committee did not meet in FY2024.
How is membership balanced?*	The Board will consist of 5 members, including the Chair, appointed by the Director, NIH, from authorities knowledgeable in the field of complementary and integrative health, and any additional areas relevant to the research of the intramural senior staff, as the program evolves. Members will be invited to serve for overlapping terms of up to five years.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	The Board did not meet in FY2024. It is anticipated that members will be recruited this year so that the Board may meet in FY2025.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Board will be composed of recognized biomedical and or behavioral research authorities who will represent the forefront of basic science and clinical research in complementary and integrative health and any additional areas relevant to the research of the intramural senior staff, as the program evolves. Their recommendations cannot be obtained from other sources because the complex nature of research and research program emphasis requires a specialized balance and breadth of expertise not available from NIH staff or from other established sources. The Board will provide to the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health a description of its activities for review.

Recommendation Remarks	Committee Function: Other - Scientific and Technical Peer Review. The committee did not meet in FY24. It is anticipated that the Director plans to develop and implement the program with a focus on the role of the brain in perceiving, modifying, and managing pain. The intramural program is also participating in on-going clinical and training programs, which includes investigating the role of the brain in pain processing and control, and how factors such as emotion, attention, environment, and genetics affect pain perception. It is anticipated that members will be recruited so that the Board may meet in FY2025. This committee did not produce any reports during the reporting period. This committee does not have a dedicated website. The Committee Decision Maker and Designated Federal Official are the same individual based on assigned duties within the IC.

Narrative Description*	NIH’s mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability. NIH works toward that mission by conducting research in its own laboratories. The mission of the Board of Scientific Counselors is to assess the quality of the Institute’s intramural research programs and to evaluate the productivity and performance of intramural scientists in accordance with Section 492(b) of the PHS Act, as amended and shall also, as requested by the Director, NIH, undertake peer review of extramural funding applications as required by section 492(a) of the Public Health Service Act, as amended.
