How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee shall provide recommendations to the President and the heads of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowments of the Arts and National Endowment for the humanities to (1) advance the policy objectives of E.O. 14084, including with respect to community well-being; economic development and mobility; public, physical, and mental health; education; resilience and adaptation, as well as combatting climate change; civic and democratic engagement; and support for the artistic and cultural heritage of the United States; (2) promote philanthropic and private sector engagement with and support for the arts, the humanities, and museum and library services; (3) enhance the effectiveness of Federal support for the arts, the humanities, and museum and library services; and (4) catalyze the engagement of the Nation’s artists, humanities scholars, cultural heritage practitioners, and leaders in the arts, the humanities, and museum and library services including with respect to engagement in significant cultural events; and promoting the recognition of excellence in the arts, the humanities, and museum and library services, and their relevance to our Nation's social and economic well-being.
How is membership balanced?*PCAH membership is established by Presidential Executive Order. PCAH consists of the Chairperson of the NEA, the Chairperson of the NEH, the Director of IMLS and no more than 30 additional persons who are not full-time officers or employees of the Federal Government (non-Federal members) who are appointed by the President. The Librarian of Congress, the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, the Director of the National Gallery of Art, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are invited to serve as additional, non-voting members of the Committee.

The President shall designate a Chair or two Co-Chairs from among the non-Federal members of the Committee. Non-Federal members are designated as Special Government Employees and serve until they are replaced or resign from the Committee. Federal members shall be designated as Regular Government Employees.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities maintains the only forum for government-wide discussion of issues in both the arts and the humanities in the United States and, in addition, bridges the public and private sectors, with a unique perspective on private sector support for the arts and the humanities. Members of the Committee include private citizens appointed by the President and ex officio membership includes heads of federal agencies with cultural programs, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the National Gallery of Art.

No formal feedback has been provided as of yet.Narrative Description*The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) was established by Executive Order 14084 as an advisory body to the President, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The committee is comprised of leading artists, scholars, museum practitioners, and philanthropists. The PCAH provides recommendations to the President and the heads of the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Institute of Museum and Library Services to advance wide-ranging policy objectives in the arts and humanities. As part of its mandate, the PCAH will consider how the arts and humanities sectors can positively impact community well-being, economic development, public health, education, civic engagement, and climate change across the United States.
