How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Based on the information collected at these hearings and listening sessions, the All AN Advisory Committee will provide advice on a regular basis to the Associate Attorney General in such intervals as he may require. The AllAN Advisory Committee will also develop a final report to the Attorney General presenting its policy recommendations, which are intended to serve as a blueprint for preventing AllAN children's exposure to violence as victims and witnesses, and for mitigating the negative effects experienced by AllAN children exposed to violence across the United States and throughout Indian Country.
How is membership balanced?*The AIl AN Advisory Committee will be comprised of 10 -12 members who will serve as representatives or special government employees who will be drawn from a cross section of experts who are knowledgeable about issues relating to AIIAN children's exposure to violence in the United States and throughout Indian Country. Members will include current and former elected officials, practitioners, child and family advocates, licensed clinicians, and other subject matter experts. Members will be appointed by the Attorney General.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The members ofthe AllAN Advisory Committee will conduct up to four hearings and six listening sessions (as needed) nationwide to learn from key practitioners, academics, policymakers, and the public about the issue of AllAN children exposed to violence in the United States and throughout Indian Country. The members will also learn ofpromising and evidence-based practices that deserve increased attention from DOJ
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The AllAN Advisory Committee are to provide the Attorney General with critical advice regarding a broad array of issues relating to addressing the problem ofAllAN children being exposed to violence in the United States. The AllAN Advisory Committee will also provide ongoing advice to the Department of Justice (DOJ) through the Associate Attorney General. The AllAN Advisory Committee may provide advice to the Federal Working Group ofthe Attorney General's Task Force on American Indian! Alaska Native Children Exposed to Violence (hereinafter, the AllAN Federal Working Group). The primary objective of the AllAN Advisory Committee is to provide high-level policy advice and recommendations as part of the Attorney General's Defending Childhood Initiative.
