How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The NARA Advisory Committee on Preservation addresses specific technological issues concerning the preservation of record materials, such as paper, film, magnetic tape, and optical disk. These issues are taken up by the committee when a technical preservation problem, that cannot be adequately dealt with by current staff, confronts the agency.
How is membership balanced?*	The committee is composed of experts in the fields of museum administration, library and archival preservation, manufacturing and application of preservation materials, such as paper, film, tape, and disk, and the surrounding materials housing these items.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	Though the committee did not meet during this fiscal year they contributed to the preservation portion of NARA's Strategic Plan. The annual cost of the committee is small considering the invaluable technical information provided by the members.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The mix of technologies utilized in the preservation of archives is so great that it would be impossible to hire all the experts needed. The advisory committee provides excellent guidance from the best in each field at a fraction of the cost.
