How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Oversight Council will advise NSF and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks on scientific, policy, and management issues relating to the operation of the IARC. The Oversight Council will review annual program plans of the IARC before submission to NSF.
How is membership balanced?*	Members are broadly representative of the scientific research and education community. Professional stature and familiarity with the National Science Foundation and its Arctic research programs are considered in selecting Oversight Council members.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	The Oversight Council will meet once or twice a year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Council was established at the request of the National Science Board.
