Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. See the Data From Previous Years section at the bottom of this page for the committee’s historical, verified data.

Details on agency responses to committee recommendations can be found under the Performance Measures section for each committee in the fields “Agency Feedback” and “Agency Feedback Comment.”

How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee met and determined the optimal suite of space missions to address the science goals called out in the NASA Strategic Goal 8, Understand the Origin, Structure, Evolution and Destiny of the Universe. The Roadmap covered: (1) the connection between the science goals and the science investigations required to meet these goals; and (2) a timeline for implementation of the mission suite that meets anticipated agency resources.
How is membership balanced?*The membership was balanced among academic, industry, and Federal government members. The academic members were chosen to provide scientific expertise across the full scope of the strategic goal and to fairly represent the various science communities involved in the science goals of this Roadmap. The industry members provided unique insight from the aerospace industry on technical and implementation issues. The federal agency members were drawn from NASA, the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation so as to facilitate interagency cooperation on achieving science goals common within these agencies.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*There were four meetings, one of them being a one-day teleconference.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Advisory input to NASA was required to provide a comprehensive, implementable Strategic Roadmap that addresses the science requirements dictated by the Strategic Goal.
