How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Jury selected a design for a Pentagon Memorial and provided their recommendation to the Secretary of Defense. The Jury reviewed and evaluated all designs submitted in response to the Baltimore District, Corps of Engineers announcement of the design competition for a Pentagon Memorial to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
How is membership balanced?*	The Jury consisted of eleven members; six preeminent in design fields, one member of the family of the victims, and four members that have had long standing relationships with the Department of Defense and/or other Federal Agencies
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	The Jury held two closed meetings, one of which spanned several days.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Department needed an independent group of advisors to ensure that the design of the Pentagon Memorial would be a lasting tribute to those who perished. The Department of Defense wanted the design of the Pentagon Memorial to be recommended by a group with artistic and historical expertise, political experience and those who were personally affected by the loss of a loved one in the September 11 tragedy. No other group was capable of performing this service.
