Committee Detail

Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. See the Data From Previous Years section at the bottom of this page for the committee’s historical, verified data.

Details on agency responses to committee recommendations can be found under the Performance Measures section for each committee in the fields “Agency Feedback” and “Agency Feedback Comment.”

How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Advisory Committee provides advice to the National Science Foundation concerning the broad topic of advanced cyberinfrastructure and the existing Partnerships for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (PACI). The Advisory Committee is being convened to prepare a report that: 1) evaluates the performance of the PACI Program in meeting the needs of the scientific research and engineering community; 2) recommends new areas of emphasis for the NSF Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering that will respond to the future needs of this community; and 3) recommends an implementation plan to enact those changes.
How is membership balanced?*Members are broadly representative of the scientific research and computer science and computational community. Professional stature and familiarity with the National Science Foundation and its PACI program are considered in selecting Advisory Committee members.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Estimated Number of Meetings per Year - 6 Estimated Total Meetings - 12
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The pace of research and innovation in such areas as the Internet, data mining, visualization, tele-instrumentation, tele-presence, and grid computing persuades us that NSF must draw more aggressively on these new technology opportunities. Additionally, NSF must establish a setting for Terascale Research and Infrastructure. There is currently no chartered Advisory Committee to provide NSF with the necessary advice and expertise required.
Why close or partially close meetings?
