Agency Feedback Comment*Although the EPIC Advisory Committee charter has terminated, an e-mail list of committee members is maintained and periodic updates on departmental activity related to their recommendations are sent out.Narrative Description*One of the stated HHS Goals in the department's strategic plan is to enhance the ability of the Nation's health care system to effectively respond to bioterrorism and other public health challenges. The Emergency Public Information and Communications Advisory Committee clearly supports this goal in making recommendations to the Secretary on appropriate ways to communicate public health information regarding bioterrorism and other public health emergencies to the public.During its chartered period of activity, the EPIC Committee assessed current practices within the public health community for communicating with the public regarding the threats posed by bioterrorism and other public health emergencies; identified those particular practices that warrant broad use within public health community and how such use might best be encouraged; and determined where new or improved communication strategies and methods are needed and how they might best be developed.
