Committee Detail

Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. See the Data From Previous Years section at the bottom of this page for the committee’s historical, verified data.

Details on agency responses to committee recommendations can be found under the Performance Measures section for each committee in the fields “Agency Feedback” and “Agency Feedback Comment.”

How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Technology and Commercialization Advisory Committee (TCAC) is chartered by NASA to assist in the review of strategies and programs to implement national technology and commercial development policies, goals, and plans. The TCAC provides NASA, through expert multi-sector and multi-disciplinary representation, vital counsel to meet civil space aeronautics and commercial program objectives. The Committee contributes uniquely to the Nation's development of cheap access to space, ongoing technology research and focused technology development, space commercial development, and transfer of NASA developed technologies to industry.
How is membership balanced?*Members of the TCAC are selected for their expertise in space and aeronautics technology and development, and commercialization, or their understanding of those matters from the larger societal perspective. The members are selected from industry, academia, government, and the general public.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee met two times this year. The Committee prepared recommendations and reports for the NASA Advisory Council to review and provide to NASA management. These recommendations deal with NASA's efforts to implement national technology and commercial development policies, goals, and plans. The Committee's recommendations are particulary valuable at this juncture as NASA continues its pioneering efforts to invigorate its space missions with new technologies, to facilitate the use of space resources by industry, and to expand technology transfer activities in accordance with the Agency's Agenda for Change.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The members of the Committee were selected expressly for their expertise and recognition in fields that are distinctively applicable to NASA's technology development and technology transfer missions. The members, as a committee, advise on the means of achieving these NASA missions, bringing to NASA the valuable perspective of outsiders with expertise that is beyond the scope of internal Agency resources. They also recommend means of establishing contacts and alliances with other customers that are based on their unique positions in the private sector.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
