How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Ballistic Missile Defense Advisory Committee (BMDAC)accomplished its purpose by making recommendations which were critical to the managment and directions of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) in light of changing Congressional directions and budgets.
How is membership balanced?*	The membership consisted of experts from industry, academia as well as former military and government officials. In addition, some of the members served on various Service and Department of Defense scientific advisory boards. They are recognized authorities in policy, acquisition, military and technical areas relating to the BMD program who provided a broad range of perspectives and expertise in advising the BMDO on all aspects of ballistic missile defense, including acquisition, joint operations, technology development, and the strategic implications.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	In FY 2002, the Ballisitic Missile Defense Advisory Committee (BMDAC) did not meet.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The BMDAC provided a unique, independent resource to the BMDO and DoD. No other group or individuals existed that combined the breadth and objectivity of the BMDAC with the willingness of the members to make themselves available to the DoD as advisory in this critical program. Their prior experience and continued involvement in scientific and military activities gave them insight into a wide range of technical issues that was unavailable from any other resource.
Why close or partially close meetings?	The meeting discussions involved classified matters of national security concerns. Such classified material was so intertwined with the unclassified material it could not reasonably be segregated into separate discussions without defeating the effectiveness and meaning of the overall meeting.
