How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Committee's objective was to further the President's Africa Initiative by advising the Secretary of Commerce on matters of concern regarding doing business in Africa, and effectively contributing to the creation of a more enabling business environment in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Committee drew upon the expertise of its members in order to provide advice and make recommendations to the Secretary.
How is membership balanced?*	The Committee consisted of 20 representatives from small, medium and large enterprises operating throughout the United States with business concerns all over Sub-Saharan Africa. Membership also reflected diversity in ethnic and gender representation. Committee members also specialized in a variety of sectors.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	Meetings were not held during FY2002. The Advisory Committee on Africa terminated on December 10, 2001.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Committee was created to further the President's Africa Initiative. Moreover, with the recent signing of the African Growth and Opportunity Act, the bill will help to more fully integrate Africa into the global economy by emphasizing increased trade and investment between the United States and Africa. The Committee consisted of members who were already actively doing business in Africa and can thereby make pertinent recommendations concerning the commercial environment in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Committee completed its business and was terminated December 10, 2001.
Why close or partially close meetings?	Only open meetings were held. No meetings were held during FY2002.
Recommendation Remarks	Tha ACA's charter expired in December 2001, and the ITA decided not to renew the ACA's charter and therefore disassemble the Committee. Since December 10, 2001, the ACA's charter has been terminated and will not be renewed.
