How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	Substantial impact on continuation of key nutrition monitoring survey.Recommendations to strenthen HHS and USDA Surveys included in senior policy discussions.
How is membership balanced?*	Diverse perspectives as required by legislation industry, hunger advocacy, children, elderly, technical survey design, clinical, population based approaches all represented.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	No meeting was held. Two Presidential apponitees' terms had expired and they were renewed. This Committee is mandated until the Year 2002. The continued Scientific and Technical advice and evaluation of key surveys is critical at this stage given the major survey coordination efforts underway and the eventual merger.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	This is the only diverse external independent body advising the Secretaries of HHS and USDA on nutrition monitoring issues. Council provides perspectives from data users not obtainable in-house.
Why close or partially close meetings?	N/A
Recommendation Remarks	The Advisory Council has not met since 1997. The charter for the Council will expire June 22, 2001. At the present time, there are no plans to renew the charter. Seven terms on the Council have expired. Currently there are 2 members of the Council whose terms will expire in 2001.
