How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	In conducting its meetings, the Commission provided a forum for discussions and information interchange with and among persons having an interest in the various administration, protection, and development aspects of the lakeshore.
How is membership balanced?*	As prescribed by the enabling legislation, the Commission was composed of 10 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, as follows: (1) four members appointed from recommendations made by the counties in which the lakeshore is situated (two members to represent each county); (2) four members appointed from recommendations made by the Governor of the State of Michigan; and (3) two members designated by the Secretary of the Interior. The members represented a fair mix of geographical and philosophical backgrounds.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*	The Commission generally met two to three times a year. The meetings provided for the dissemination of information/updates from park managers and for public response/input to the Committee's review process.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Advisory Commission was established by the Congress to advise the Secretary of the Interior or the Secretary's designee regarding matters relating to: (1) the administration, protection and development of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, including the establishment of the zoning by-laws, construction and administration of scenic roads, procurement of land, condemnation of commercial property; and (2) the preparation and implementation of the land and water use management plan provided for in section 6(b) of Public Law 91-479.

Recommendation Remarks	Pursuant to Section 4(a) of P.L. 91-479, as amended by P.L. 100-558, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Advisory Commission terminated on October 21, 1997.
