How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Rio Puerco Management Committee advises the Secretary of the Interior, through the Director of the Bureau of Land Management, on the development and implementation of the Rio Puerco Management Program, serve as a forum for information about activities that may affect or further the development and implementation of the best management practices and identify objectives, monitor results of ongoing projects, and develop alternative watershed management plans for the Rio Puerco Drainage Basin, based on best management practices.
How is membership balanced?*The membership of the Committee was determined by P.L. 104-333. The Council is composed of 15 members, representing Rio Puerco Watershed Committee; affected tribes and pueblos; USFS; BOR; USGS; BIA; FWS; USACE; EPA; NRCS; State of New Mexico; affected local soil and water conservation districts; Elephant Butte Irrigation District; private landowner; and public at large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Rio Puerco Management Committee has not met to date as there are no appointed members.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee is composed of citizens with diverse and wide-ranging expertise and agency representatives that provide advice, recommendations, and alternatives on often controversial issues relating to the Rio Puerco Watershed. The Committee also affords a valuable opportunity to build public consensus on these issues.
Why close or partially close meetings?All meetings of the Committee will be open to the public.
