How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The BLM's Southern New Mexico RAC provides representative citizen council and advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the Bureau of Land Management's New Mexico State Director concerning the planning and management of public land resources located within the jurisdictional boundaries of the RAC.
How is membership balanced?*The Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council is composed of 12 members distributed in a balanced fashion among the following groups and within those groups. Specific interests include: Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development. Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups. This may require the RAC to, at the direction of the designated Federal officer, gather and analyze information, conduct studies and field examinations, hear public comments, and provide advice on the issues presented.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the BLM New Mexico website, and distributed to local newspapers.
Recommendation RemarksThe Las Cruces (73658) and Pecos (73657) District Resource Advisory Councils consolidated into a single Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council (84601) effective June 18, 2020.
