How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Space Weather Advisory Group (SWAG) shall advise the Space Weather Interagency Working Group established by the National Science and Technology Council pursuant to Section 60601(c) of title 51, United States Code.

On September 26, 2024, the SWAG released the "Results of the First National Survey of User Needs for Space Weather" report to the Space Weather Interagency Working Group. Members of the SWAG also prepared and completed a briefing of the report to Congress on September 27, 2024. The report was released to the public on September 30, 2024. New appointees for the SWAG began their term on October 1, 2024. On November 5, 2024, an administrative meeting was held for the new SWAG members to provide Federal Advisory Committee training and ethics. Further work by the SWAG will continue as directed by the Space Weather Interagency Working Group when the Space Weather Interagency Working Group is reconstituted by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC).
How is membership balanced?*The SWAG membership selection continued to be balanced as outlined in the PROSWIFT Act with the start of the second term on October 1, 2024. Fifteen SWAG members were selected by the Space Weather Interagency Working Group with consideration given to industry perspective needs providing an appropriate range of views that represent the span of the space weather community and end-user sectors. 5 members represent the academic community; 5 members represent the commercial space weather sector; and 5 members are nongovernmental representatives of the space weather end user community.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The SWAG typically meets publicly 3 to 5 times throughout the fiscal year. The SWAG did not hold a public meeting in FY 2025 due to delays in the charter renewal and reconstitution of the Space Weather interagency working group by the NSTC.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The board is established by law. There is no other advisory committee to advise the White House space weather interagency working group.
Why close or partially close meetings? Not applicable
Recommendation RemarksThis committee is established by law to inform the interests and work of the White House Space Weather Interagency Working Group. The advisory group shall advise the interagency working group on facilitating advances in the space weather enterprise of the United States.

Space Weather Advisory Group member Seth Jonas took a position within the federal government and informed the DFO on February 25, 2025, thus that is the date his term ended.
